St. Petersburg, Florida welcomed celebrity chefs Michael Mina and Don Pintabona to the Sunshine City when their restaurant, Locale Market, opened its doors in 2014. The market itself offers hand-selected items from artisanal producers both near and far. You will discover fresh local produce, cured meats and cheeses from Italy and Florida stone crab (just to name a few of the perfect ingredients you can purchase to make a meal). Or if you are in a bit of a rush, stop by one of the eleven kitchens for a dish that is ready to go or customized for you right on the spot. (How about pork shoulder for dinner or a Peruvian rotisserie chicken? Yum!)
Whether you are craving ravioli, deep-dish pizza, crisp salad, or even sushi – there is most definitely a station for you. Do you feel like breaking the rules a bit and treating yourself to a juicy burger? Do yourself a favor and try a St. Petersburger. Or satisfy that sweet tooth of yours and stop by the sundae station. Marketing Coordinator, Rodrigo Mendez, actually did the math on this particular station and there are over 100,000 combinations for only $7.99 each. (Post your combination on Downtown Now to share with members of DowntownStPete.com!). Locale Market is conveniently located across from Muvico Cinema Sundial in DTSP, which makes it the perfect place to stop before or after your flick! Whether you are searching for a healthy snack or a bite for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner – Locale Market is definitely the place for you to stop by.
Head upstairs for an entirely different experience than the cultural market downstairs. FarmTable Kitchen (restaurant) is headed by Chef Jeffrey Hileman and is a successful collaboration of everyone involved. For those who wish to enjoy what the market offers in a restaurant setting, upstairs is the place for you. Farmtable Kitchen serves up the best farm-and-Gulf-to-table meals to satisfy your taste buds.
Amplify your experience by reserving your seat at the Chef’s Table. It is a private eight-course chef’s tasting dinner for up to ten people in the intimate dining room. The sous chefs of FarmTable Kitchen create exquisite dishes for each course (that are all given the thumbs up by Chef Jeffrey). You can also choose to have them paired with fabulous wine or local craft beer.
“It’s important for me to empower my team to be creative,” Chef Jeffrey said as he explained the great collaboration of the Chef’s Table experience and everything served at Locale Market.
“That is our philosophy – to be very collaborative,” Rodrigo Mendez reminded me as that seemed to be the theme of our meeting. The success of Locale Market and FarmTable Kitchen is a joint effort between the 5-star team that runs the place and the guests who keep returning for their next visit. The team is listening to us and constantly improving the layout, products and tastes. All while keeping the prices friendly for anyone’s budget and lifestyle.
I do have to admit something rather special about Locale Market as a whole – yes, the food is amazing and it reminds me a European experience right here in Downtown St. Pete (and honestly, the décor is absolutely darling!). However, the folks who work there are downright proud to be a part of something this dynamic and you can absolutely see the joy in their faces as they work. There are literally eleven kitchens running seamlessly, flawlessly at any given point. The excitement reminds me of 3-ring circus – you can’t help but to smile during your visit.
Speaking of smiling, share your experience at Locale Market or upstairs at FarmTable Kitchen on Downtown Now by posting a photo of your favorite meal.
