“God’s waiting room?” “The most depressed city in the U.S.?” Forget all that. The ‘Burg has shed its former reputation. While vacant businesses and desolate streets used to be an all-too common sight in downtown St. Petersburg, the city has now reinvented itself. From the community-driven nature of its residents, to the myriad of local businesses, to the vibrant culture, St. Petersburg has become one of the best places to live, work, play and vacation!
Seasoned locals can tell you that downtown St. Petersburg hasn’t always been how it is today—but the city that was once essentially closed by dusk, has grown tremendously in recent years—and with art, museums, entertainment, nightlife, restaurants, shopping, and recreation, there’s a little something for everyone in downtown St. Petersburg.
St. Petersburg has transformed itself, thanks in-part to small business owners and local artists who have revived the downtown area. Stroll the downtown streets and you’ll notice the collection of locally-owned eateries, art galleries, retail stores, and more, all proudly showcasing a black and white “Keep St. Petersburg Local” sticker. These businesses have been a driving force behind the city’s economic growth and have injected vitality into the downtown area, making it a more enjoyable place for all.
The city’s transformation has made St. Petersburg an even better place to be than before—and there’s always something going on. Locals and tourists can enjoy St. Pete’s big-city caliber, while also enjoying the natural beauty of Florida in one of the downtown parks. Grab a bite to eat or enjoy a craft beer at one of the St. Petersburg’s many restaurants or breweries. Browse a local gallery or admire the colorful street art. Catch a concert at one of the multiple downtown venues and don’t forget to visit the world-renowned and stunningly beautiful Salvador Dali Museum. Get married at the modernized historic 1920 wedding and event venue NOVA 535.
There’s no doubt that St. Petersburg has undergone an incredible transformation and there’s no signs of slowing down either. Mayor Rick Kriseman has seen the ‘Burg transform tremendously throughout his years in city council and is working to ensure the city continues to prosper.
“The Sunshine City is the beating heart of an incredible, emerging region of true opportunity,” Kriseman said. “We’re working to make St. Petersburg a city of opportunity where the sun shines on all who come to live, work and play.”
Especially Downtown St. Pete Florida has been reinvigorated as a world-class vacation destination for enjoying the arts, music, dining, nightlife and more!
