In this day and age, it is not an impossibility to simply look beautiful. There are countless techniques at our fingertips that can alter our appearance from makeup contouring to the newest face peel fad. If one is blind to the ingredients of beauty products, it may all seem like fun and games. However, sometimes it slips our minds that true beauty shines from the inside and what we use on the outside should be natural and actually good for our bodies. Thankfully, Downtown St. Pete has a salon and spa that will help you balance beauty and health, but get this – Harmony Eco Spa (www.harmonyecohairspa.com) helps you focus on both equally using only non-toxic products. Located at the Hollander Hotel, 400 4th Street North, this particular place offers much more than your typical salon services.
I had the opportunity to sit and chat with one of the owners, Jennifer Andrews – this gal really glows! Originally from St. Louis, Andrews knew that she wanted to open a spa here in St. Petersburg because of the big-city growth and small-town feel. Plus, she quickly discovered that there was not another local business that offered the broad range of services she wished to focus on, which equaled a great amount of opportunity. It was perfect.
Andrews teamed up with Rebecca Gregory and the two seasoned professionals, who are National Certified Organic Colorists and Master Stylists, created Harmony Eco Spa in 2013.
With a plethora of options in the beauty and wellness industry (because now we are combining the two), what makes this particular business 5-star and worthy a visit from you? ALL of the products used inside the doors of Harmony have the highest quality ingredients that are pH balanced and made with a blend of antioxidant super foods to nourish and bring health to the hair, scalp, and body. (That means no poison is being pumped into that beautiful body of yours when you get a color, wash, or facial! We love organic products.)
Jennifer Andrews became passionate about natural products when she first moved to St. Pete eight years ago. She lived a holistic lifestyle and practiced yoga, but had an awakening when she learned that her work was not jiving with her way of life. It was surprising when Andrews, who is obviously a non-smoker, was diagnosed with chronic bronchitis. She wondered what was wrong with her body, and then it hit her.
“Hello! It could be the chemicals [I work with everyday] that are causing this!” Jennifer told me as she shared her story. Her condition unfortunately resulted in a brief hospital stay, which worried her that she might have to give up her career.
Then low and behold, she discovered Simply Organic Beauty North America and she fell in love with the products. Currently, she and fellow owner of Harmony Eco Spa, Rebecca, are the Creative and Educational Directors of the organic line.
According to Simply Organic Beauty’s website, their line Organic Way (Oway) is the world’s first professional organic hair color, care and styling line with biodynamic, organic and fair trade ingredients. Oway’s organic salon products take root on [their] family’s biodynamic farms in Bologna, Italy – where Italian quality meets nature. (Andrews recently visited the factory and land in Italy and truly believes that every stylist should use these truly natural products!)
You could say that Jennifer Andrews and Rebecca Gregory have helped pioneer a whole new view of beauty, which has allowed them to accomplish many milestones to be proud of, including National awards of excellence, front covers and monthly articles in beauty magazines, and traveling to major cities in the country to speak about health, beauty, and wellness.
“Everyday I’m honored and humbled to be in this position,” Andrews said with a smile. “I feel like I’m leaving a legacy behind for stylists in the future to have a healthier and safer work environment.” (DTSP is honored to have you gals in our community!)
Jennifer Andrews is also a Certified Core Health practitioner, which assists in clearing inner turmoil through kinesiology (muscle testing) to tap into different parts of the brain. She truly believes that everything in life is about balance and if you have harmony on the inside, then you do have beauty on the outside (hence the name “Harmony” for her salon).
Popular treatments of Harmony Eco Spa include repairing damaged hair with Scalp Therapy, Precision Hair Cutting, Organic Hair Coloring, Massage and Therapeutic Bodywork, Skin Care Services, Health Mate Ingra Red Sauna, Reiki-Entergy Balancing, and coming soon is Salt Elements Salt Bed. (This salon is not hippie-central. There really is something for everyone!)

The environment is relaxing, the therapeutic music is calming, there is no potent smell of chemicals, and you can even enjoy and browse the art on the wall from local artists.
